I have suffered from severe anxiety for many years. Even still, it sometimes can be a battle. But a few months ago, I decided I couldn’t fully live a happy life with my anxiety so I decided to do something about it without having to take medication. I started doing Bikram Yoga and just after a short 3 months, my anxiety has drastically decreased.

Bikram Yoga is absolutely amazing. Not only has it helped my anxiety, but also I have lost weight and I feel better about myself overall. It really does work the mind, the body and the spirit. Bikram Choudhury developed Bikram Yoga from traditional hatha yoga techniques. It is a series of 26 postures including two breathing exercises for 90 minutes in a warm room, usually around 40% humidity and 105 degrees. It has been around since the 1970s, but has become increasingly popular in the last few years. And I see why. It is just incredible all of the benefits you can get in just a 90-minute class. Bikram-certified teachers, who are extremely nice and helpful, teach the classes.

One thing I truly love about this practice is that it helps you learn how to stop your thoughts from racing and learn to just live in the moment. Bikram yoga also improves your strength and flexibility. It all depends on your body, but you can easily burn up to 500 calories a class if not more. The benefits really are endless and if you practice Bikram three times a week you can benefit from raising your energy level, balancing your metabolism, relieving arthritis, opening your joints, helping your organs and improve your circulation. It also is great for decreasing stress, anxiety and depression. It helps with a lot of chronic health issues, especially chronic back pain since you are working your total spine. It helps move fresh oxygenated blood to one hundred percent of your body. Sometimes I wake up with back pain and if I go do yoga, I feel better immediately. I also have noticed a great improvement in my circulation and I have only been doing it for 3 months. Each posture does something great for you. Each pose benefits you in one-way or another. Think about all of the benefits and great ways your body will change if you stick to doing 3 classes a week for 6 months!

Stay tuned for additional blogs on the postures and benefits of each one.
